When/Where was your first triathlon?
First tri experience was at Rec Plex in St Charles about 6 years ago.
What is your favorite and least favorite gel flavor?
Strawberry banana. GAG. Tastes like baby food.
What is your favorite race?
Coeur D’Alene. Gorgeous town, clear water and a brutal climb in the mountains… but so great!
What is the most challenging moment you’ve had during a race?
Ugh…vertigo during the swim at Wisconsin 70.3.
What is your favorite place in or around St. Louis to train?
Wildwood- love those beautiful rolling hills and lighter traffic.
What is the worst food you’ve tried in training or racing and why?
kelp salad. Enough said.
What is your favorite thing about triathlon?
The changes… it takes a lot to pull all the pieces together, physically and mentally.
What is the one piece of tri-geek gear you can’t live without?
My Garmin triathlon watch. This thing is tough as nails and I have spent countless hours with it on my wrist.
Tip for new (or veteran) triathletes?
Take each discipline at a time… don’t let the totality of it go to your head. Get past the swim…. then focus on the bike, then the run. One bit at a time and you will get it done.
Is it true triathletes pee on the bike? Have you?
Yes, some certainly do… no drafting is a great rule. I tried a couple of times, but couldn’t make myself do it.
